Airtoyz Ultralight Aviatorz Club Ultralight Flight Training Programs
Single-place powered paragliders (PPG / paramotor), ultralight powered hang gliders (PHG / delta-wing) trikes, and ultralight powered parachutes (PPC / powered para wing (PPW) / power chute), are considered "ultralight vehicles" under
FAA Part 103 regulations. No license or training is required to fly these vehicles, however, participating in a professional training program that uses modern teaching methods and course specific materials as its' foundation is critical to your safety!
The
Airtoyz Ultralight Aviatorz Club Instructors offer PPG/paramotor foot-launch and wheel-launch, ultralight PHG trike, and ultralight PPC training. All of our training syllabi use the the ASC Pilot/BFI and USPPA PPG1, PPG2, and PPG3 course syllabi as their foundations, with additional elements and refinements based on the
Powered Paragliding Bible the
EAA Training Guide for Weight-Shift Control Ultralights, the
FAA Weight-Shift Control Aircraft Flying Handbook (FAA-H-8083-5), the
FAA Powered Parachute Flying Handbook (FAA-H-8083-29), and various other flight safety and awareness oriented documents. We fully embrace the
USPPA Instructor Commitment doctrine. As student demand grows we will be adding more USPPA Certified Instructors to our team. We limit student enrollment to 2 students per instructor to insure each student gets as much attention as needed.
Airtoyz Ultralight Aviation's Chief Instructor, Drew Vroman, has been a pilot since 1981 and has been training people how to fly ultralights since 2003. Drew is an Aero Sports Connection (ASC) Certified Basic Flight Instructor (BFI) #BAZ0014641 PPG/PHG/PPW with an FAA Tandem Ultralight Exemption allowing him to give tandem ultralight training flights. Drew also holds United States Powered Paragliding Association (USPPA) PPG3 Foot-Launch and PPG3 Wheel-Launch ratings.
Drew first learned to fly in 1981 and earned FAA VFR and IFR Private Pilot ratings. He was an EAA Weight-Shift Control Trike Basic Flight Instructor (pre-Sport Pilot) and WSC chassis manufacturer and has over 600 hours of ultralight trike flight time. Weight-shift control trikes are also known as WSC trikes, delta trikes, delta-wing trikes, PHG trikes, powered hang gliders, microlights, ultralight trikes, and nanolights. Drew is also an ultralight PPC (powered parachute) pilot.
When you join the
Airtoyz Ultralight Aviatorz Club you become a "student for life"! Unlike most schools, we won't restrict you to a 5 to 7 day course! We understand that not everyone can take a week or more off work all at once. Sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate or there are gear malfunctions that take time to rectify. We believe that your long-term flying safety is more important than our bottom line! Airtoyz Instructors won't rush you into the air and then say you're good to go after just a few flights. Airtoyz students will be able to earn an Airtoyz 'Ace' rating (ASC BFI / USPPA PPG3) at their own pace and along the way you'll gain valuable knowledge that will serve you well. You can even become a tandem rated PPG or PHG instructor yourself! We're not the cheapest, but we do offer the most comprehensive training courses available in the USA. Training is available year-round and our winters are very mild.
Located within the National Joshua Tree Forest in the beautiful Hualapai Valley 36 miles north of Kingman, Arizona, 1 1/2 hours from Las Vegas, Nevada, 1 1/4 hours from Laughlin, Nevada and just minutes from the Grand Canyon, Lake Mead and the Colorado River, Airtoyz Ultralight Aviation is surrounded by impressive sights and interesting things to do when we are not flying...

We do our training at
Red Dry Lake, just a few short miles from the
Airtoyz service shops, where we have access to over 16 square miles of smooth dry lake bed. We have very consistent north/south winds, but even when they come from the east/west, we just move to another portion of the lake bed.
Students can RV or tent camp on the lake bed or on one of our properties where electric is available. We also will have cots available in the glider shop.
